Corvus Akio adventure fat bike Revelate cargo cage pannier prototype

The latest news from Revelate and Corvus is a bit of a 2-for-1 special. The brands shared a booth at Sea Otter complete with the new Corvus Akio decked out with the latest Revelate Bags. But Revelate was also showing a prototype of the new Pitchfork Aerobar Harness which was delayed until this week.

Calling it an Aerobar Harness System, the Pitchfork is a perfect way to add handlebar bag capabilities to a bike with aerobars – without losing any functionality of the bars. This is perfect for ultra-racing events where positioning is just as important as storage space that is quickly accessible.

The Pitchfork is a two-part design with a harness and a 6L drybag that slides into the harness. The harness itself has 1L pockets on each side that are stretchy and easy to access while riding. There’s also a top-mounted bungee system for quick stowage of clothing layers, snacks, etc. Revelate states that adjustable hypalon slots allow for different bar spacings and accommodation of multiple setups.

The Pitchfork will be available soon for $160.

On the new Akio, Revelate had a few new products including these pannier prototypes. The idea here is that you mount soft bag harnesses to your rack, and then removable dry bags are loaded inside. The resulting system is still lightweight, and allows for much easier access to your gear.

The drybags feature a custom fabric with a white interior for easy location of your gear inside, and will be offered in three sizes. The outer cradles utilize a urethane hook with rubber straps for rattle-free installation.

Up front, the first production samples of their new Cargo Cage were mounted to the fork. These feature replaceable TPU pads, a removable foot, and keyed mounts so you don’t have to fully remove the bolts to install. We were told to expect these around the end of June.

New Corvus Akio

Now about that fat bike all those accessories are hung on – the new 2025 Corvus Akio. First introduced as the first carbon bike after Fatback rebranded as Corvus Cycles, the new Akio has been in the works for four years. The bike includes some big changes, including being one of the first fat bikes we’re aware of with internal storage.

Designed around 27.5 x 4.3-4.5″ wheels and tires, the bike features an updated geometry with a more “sit in feel”, and is based around a 485mm axle to crown with a 55mm offset fork.

Making the most of the wide carbon downtube that flows into the bottom bracket area, Corvus added an access hatch on the bottom of the downtube. Why the bottom? Corvus is a big fan of frame bags (the frame now features a straight top tube to fit bigger bags), to the point that each Akio bike will include a Revelate frame bag with complete builds. Fat biking requires a number of layers to adjust to changing weather and personal heat output, and frame bags are the perfect place to stash them when not needed – among other necessities. Placing the access hatch on the bottom of the tube means it’s still accessible with a frame bag installed, and the hatch makes a perfect place to store a spare fat bike tube.

Other details include the first production carbon portage handle to help lift the bike over obstacles and 197 x 12mm rear spacing with aggressively flared chainstays for heel clearance.

The frame features fully sleeved internal cable routing with native 180mm rotors, and is claimed to weigh in at 25 lbs with a SRAM GX build with dropper post. The new Akio will first be available in 16, 18, and 20″ frames this fall, with a 22″ frame coming the following year. Pricing is expected to start at $4,400 for a complete build.

Turner Bikes Venn Nitrous gravel bikepacking singlespeed titanium bikes21

Ever since Turner Bikes went all Ti, we’ve seen several exciting new titanium bikes spring from the mind of Dave Turner. This year is no different as the brand adds two completely new models plus a number of updates and even Ti components across the line.

Venn

The Venn is Turner’s new do-everything/bikepacking bike, and the 29 x 3.0″ tire clearance certainly fits the bill. The frame is equipped with slider dropouts with a UDH and even belt drive compatibility. Designed around a 120-130mm travel fork, the frame has a 2,220g claimed weight and will sell for $2,600 for the frame.

The frame will have the option of a titanium bike packing fork, which is currently in the works. If you look closely, the fork on the Venn is slightly different than the one above, and the design isn’t finalized yet.

Gila SS

For the single-speed purists out there, the Gila is single-speed optimized with a slider dropout offering 25mm of adjustment. However, there is a UDH in case you want to throw some gears on down the road. The frame is belt drive compatible and designed around a 120-130mm travel fork. The claimed frame weight is 2,150g (medium), and will sell for $2,600 for the frame only.

Cyclosys

On the gravel side, the Cyclosys is being updated with new 3D-printed hollow Ti dropouts while adding a SRAM UDH. That makes it compatible with 1x, 2x, or any wireless drivetrain option. Tire clearance is now 700c x 50mm, or 650b x 54mm, and the frame is dropper-compatible. Claimed weight is 1850g for a medium frame, and the frame fork and headset will sell for $2,800.

DeWulf Cruiser

No longer a prototype, the DeWulf retro-styled MTB is now in production with huge 29 x 2.8″ or 27.5 x 2.8″ tire clearance. The Slider dropout includes a UDH and is belt drive compatible. The frame is meant for 120-130mm travel forks with a 2,300g claimed weight for a medium and a $3,200 price for the frame only.

Other Frame Updates

Turner was also showing off some of the new 3D printed frame details plus a new titanium seat post design. Those 3D printed details have allowed the frames to offer more tire clearance with increased stiffness, and even allow for better internal routing thanks to hidden ‘bowls’ on the other side of the ports that help guide cables through the openings. Impressively, the ports are not drilled into the frame, they’re actually welded into place, with finish work that makes the welding nearly invisible.

We’ll leave you with this Retro-tastic Nitrous build from one of Turner’s customers.

]]>
Hudski Dualist all purpose mountain commuter adventure bike7

Hudski is still a fairly young company in the world of bikes, but their category-defying Doggler left a lasting impression since my last ride at Camp Strava. The Doggler is about having fun on a bike first, and doesn’t worry about fitting into a specific category of bike design.

It looks like Hudski is taking that ethos to the next level with their new Dualist that was teased back at Sea Otter. Compared to the Doggler, the bike has a number of updates – mainly to increase tire clearance and add SRAM UDH capability. Now running Boost 148mm rear spacing, the frame has a two-piece forged BB that’s welded down the middle to allow for bigger tire clearance. The rear axle also has two positions, one at 435mm and the other at 450mm chainstay lengths ( a feat while maintaining UDH compatibility).

Depending on the setting, you can run up to 29 x 2.5″ tires out back, or a chunky 27.5 x 2.8″.

Up front, the carbon fork also has two axle positions with 44 or 54mm fork offset.

Otherwise, the Dualist looks fairly similar to the Doggler, and will continue to challenge perceptions about what a gravel or mountain bike could/should be.

We’re told that the Dualist will officially be launched in June with delivery expected in July. Don’t care about bigger tire clearance or UDH? Today is the last day of a big sale on the Hudski Doggler, with complete bike prices as low as $1,120!

Sometimes it’s the little things that stand out, and Crank Brothers’ booth highlight was this new Cleat Tool. Designed to fit their own cleats (obvi), as well as SPD and Time cleats, it helps you hold them in position while tightening the bolts.

The tool snaps onto the cleat, so you don’t have to keep holding it in place. When it’s time to crank down on the bolts, it gives you more leverage so the cleat doesn’t twist on the shoe, messing up your perfectly calibrated placement.

The prongs on the side have four distinct depth measurements, all with 1mm variations, so you can check your shoes’ tread heights. This helps you determine if you need to use spacers under your cleats (or not). The dots on each corner tell you the depth in millimeters.

The Crank Brothers Cleat Tool price is just $5.99, and it’ll be available in July…unless you buy a pair of Crank Brothers shoes (update: or pedals!). We found out they’ll be including them with new shoes (and pedals!) starting in late May as a bonus surprise when purchased directly from Crank Brothers’ website.

Park Tool new tools at Sea Otter Master Rolling tool kit3

Before you even know you need it, Park Tool is probably already working on it. Every time we catch up with the iconic blue tool company, they always seem to have at least one new tool – though usually it’s many. That was the case again at Sea Otter this year, with a wide range of new tools (and a giant tool kit) to address widely different needs.

BRK-1 – Big Rolling Kit

Calling it the ultimate mobile mechanic tool kit, the BRK-1 consists of “nearly 90 professional-grade” bike tools. The entire kit fits inside their waterproof BX-3 Rolling Big Blue Box allowing you to check it on an airline. The BRK-1 sells for $1,995.95.

Samox DH1 TM1 Carbon cranks

Samox is making a big push into the world of high-end cranksets with their new Platinum line. Available in TM1 for Trail to Enduro use, or the DH1 for downhill, the cranks are made from carbon but with a focus on all-out durability. Samox is even backing up that claim with a no-questions-asked lifetime warranty on the cranks.

Meant for 11 or 12-speed 1x drivetrains with Boost hub spacing and 52mm chainline, the cranks will not include a chainring for the advertised price. A big selling point of the TM1 is that it will be offered in “sized for all”, with 145, 155, 160, 165, and 170mm crank lengths. With more and more mountain bikers going to shorter cranks, this will definitely be a big hit with those looking for shorter carbon options. The DH1 will only be offered in 155 or 160mm lengths.

Spec wise, the cranks take a page out of SRAM’s book with a DUB 28.99mm spindle, and a 3-bolt direct mount chainring interface. Weights are claimed to be 378g for the 160mm TM1 or 435g for the DH1, both without chainrings. Available directly or through stocking QBP dealers, pricing is currently set at $300 for the TM1 or $325 for the DH1.

Selle Italia GT1 saddle

If I were to say a saddle was built like a Croc, what would come to mind? It probably wouldn’t be the new GT-1 from Selle Italia, but after you see how it’s put together, it all makes sense.

Meant for commuter or comfort bikes, the GT-1 is an extremely affordable saddle that claims to have a smaller environmental footprint due to its unique construction. Instead of using glue to attach the padding to the saddle body, it uses what they are calling a Lock-on System.

The EVA (Ethylene Vinyl Acetate) material is definitely reminiscent of a Croc shoe, and the cover is created in a way that allows it to be mechanically interlocked to the saddle body. Theoretically, you should be able to replace the cover if it’s damaged, but you could also separate the cover from the body at the end of its life for recycling.

Measuring 180mm (W) x 250mm (L), the saddle includes Fec Alloy rails with a weight of 292g. The best part though, may be the retail of $39.99.

(Photos/Thesis Bike)

That’s right, the minds at Thesis Bike have developed a bike that transforms from a fast and responsive road bike to a stable and capable gravel bike. They say that code name Project N1, will do “everything in-between” as well. Could it be the last drop bar bike you’ll ever need?

With classic road aesthetics, generous tire clearance, and extensive component compatibility, it looks like a thoughtful design to me. Let’s go over some of the thinking and design behind the Thesis prototype.

When compared to road bikes, gravel bikes will have slacker head tube angles, increased fork offsets, longer wheelbases, bigger tires, and dropped bottom brackets. The components and fit are similar, but the differences in fit and positioning, handling, and tire clearance meant choosing a bike for the different terrains.

Choosing between “a blended all-road bike, a partially-adjustable bike that compromises some geometry for others, or an entire stable of single-purpose bikes. This is part of what gave rise to the belief that the optimal number of bicycles is always one more than you currently have – N+1.”

What if One Bike Could Be Many

That was the inspiration behind “Project N1”, the code-name for Thesis’ effort to create the first bicycle that adapts quickly and completely from road to gravel and everything in between.”

Thesis Bike Project N1 road version
Dropouts are slid down and forward for “Road” mode…

Rotate, Stretch, Drop

Thesis Bike Project N1 rear drop out close up

Thesis’ Project N1 prototype can switch from gravel geometry to road in just a matter of minutes with nothing more than a hex wrench. The rider loosens Thesis’ unique, diagonal-sliding dropouts when swapping wheels, completely transforming the bike’s character.

Thesis Bike Project N1 gravel version
Dropouts are slid up and back for “Gravel” mode…

For gravel the rider slides the axle up and back, slackening the head tube, increasing the wheelbase, and dropping the bottom bracket. Thus allowing for increased stability and the use of bigger tires.

Tires clearance is up to 700x51mm or 650bx57mm with a 68mm road bottom bracket for chain line and q-factor, without reverting to dropped chainstays.

Flippin’ The Chip

The finishing of the geometry transformation is the flipping of the fork’s flip-chip. The fork is currently still under development. Flipping the chip will move the axle 10mm away from the caliper, extending the fork’s axle-to-crown measurement, and further slackening the head angle.

Thesis Bike Project N1 front fork

At the same time, it allows the fork offset to be corrected and the front center to be increased. What about the 10mm discrepancy at the caliper? Thesis suggests utilizing a 160mm rotor on the road wheelset and a 180mm on the gravel wheelset. This will eliminate the need to move the caliper when flipping the chip and swapping stuff over.

Thesis Head of Brand, Sam Jackson had this to say:

“Figuring out how to make the swap between modes simple and approachable for novice riders with limited mechanical knowledge was essential to the success of the design. We’re happy to say that it’s incredibly easy to switch the bike between gravel and road setups; going from end to end on the rear sliders completely transforms the bike without any need to tinker with the brake caliper. This is truly a do it all bike that people will be able to swap between a road and gravel bike as frequently as they want to, enabling an immense amount of latitude within one bike. The idea was to vary the handling from Land Cruiser to Lamborghini, and without a doubt it delivers.”

Wheels Manufacturing is branching out well beyond bottom brackets and shop tools. Their Sea Otter booth was packed full of prototypes aboard a gorgeous Salsa HeyDay fat bike (wrapped by Papaya Wraps Bikes), with cranks, pedals, a chainring bash guard, headset, and seatpost collar.

They also have new Solo Cog singlespeed cogs and adapters, and new shop tools, too.

They weren’t sharing a lot of info on the prototype parts, but the cranks look sleek and slim, with a bit of chiseling on the backside to save weight The topography details are machined in, not printed, which is a unique touch. Note that it’s also holding a Wheels Mfg. chainring, too.

The pedals have 11 pins per side and, possible, more or full size bearings both inboard and outboard judging by the bulge on the outside edge.
